http://wonderousworld.com https://www.facebook.com/wonderousworld1 This is a thorough description of how to secure your overland vehicle, more specifically for a Volkswagen Vanagon but can be of help with any overland vehicle. We describe how you can secure all your windows with security bars, secure all exterior belongings, interior/exterior locks and vehicle theft prevention on any overland vehicle. It doesn't matter what kind of overland vehicle you have for installing security bars on your windows. The only thing that will change is the design of them and how they are installed to the body of the vehicle. We've seen some on the outside and some on the inside but we prefer to blend in as much as possible so we went with them inside behind tinted glass. These bars are the most important part of your vehicles security; your car being secure while you're away and also while you're sleeping inside of it. We seldom sleep in secure areas or campsites cause we don't see the point in paying to park our vehicle somewhere for the night when we can always find a place for free. We just prepare ourselves for the worse case scenario which would be somebody trying to break into it. The measures we have taken will not only protect you against theft of your belongings outside your overland vehicle but also secure yourself and your belongings inside your vehicle while you sleep so you will definitely sleep a little better no matter where you park. If somebody decides they still want to try to gain entry you will surely have enough time to hop in the drivers seat if need be and take off. When we sleep in our Vanagon once the door closes we feel safe and comfortable with our defensive and if need be offensive ways to keep us safe from the bad people out there. We don't run across them often but just be ready for it if that time comes. There is nothing worse than going on a beautiful hike or exploring a town with the worry about your overland vehicle being broke into. By following this instructional video you can put your mind at ease to enjoy your travels much more and always come back to your Vanagon or whatever your overland vehicle of choice is still there and in one piece. Hello – I’m a connected car! I’m safe, clean and secure! By using information and communications technology, I can talk to my driver, to fellow cars, to the roads, and to others. I’m a minority in the world of cars right now – Only about 8% of cars coming out of factories today are connected in some way. But soon that’s all going to change. By 2020, about a quarter of all cars will be online. Most of the technology to get me talk to other cars already exists, and it helps my driver get from his home to his office more efficiently every morning. I save time and money by guiding him get from place to place faster; avoiding traffic jams and road hazards, as well as enabling him to work and stay informed on the go! I am more than just a car: with me, my driver is more connected to the rest of the world. I integrate with his mobile phone and other devices to keep him up to date with news, infotainment and his daily schedule. My driver and passengers can even install apps on my on-board computer to adapt me to their needs. Like on a smartphone, these apps can be anything from maps and parking apps for my driver, to email clients and games or video services for my passengers. If I need to go in for a service – or I need any replacement parts to keep me going – I can alert my driver and even book the maintenance appointment at a local garage. My new connectivity technology is moving the boundaries of what it means to own a car. It also means there are still things to be worked out so that owners can make the best choices as to how to maintain me. Like a computer, I have many complex systems that need to be kept up to date to work properly – and I contain a lot of information about my driver that I’d like to keep safe. I also need to be treated with care so that I’m safe from interference with my systems – I wouldn’t want anything going wrong while I’m on the move! I am part of a growing network of cars that can exchange information to help avoid accidents and improve traffic flow. The infrastructure I’ll need to make the most of my connectivity talents isn’t all built yet. But when it is I’ll also be able to talk to things like traffic lights and road signs to find out what’s going on. I’ll be able to advise my driver about trouble further down the road, as well as unseen traffic jams and speed limits. This will make all of us a lot safer on the road. My connectivity talents means I will be a lot cleaner, particularly in cities. Because I can find the most efficient route, I don’t have to stop and start so much; and because I know all the best available parking spots, my driver will spend less time and energy looking for a place to leave me. Connected cars like me will open up a new world of possibilities that will make road transport safer, cleaner and more secure. It’s a future that’s only a few years away!

Click here to watch Episode 3 now! http://bit.ly/1mfBwef In this episode of "Phreaked Out," we met some of the top security researchers at the center of the car hacking world. The goal isn't to make people crash: They highlight security holes in order to highlight flaws in car technology, intended to pressure auto manufacturers to be a few steps ahead of their friendly foes. Information security researcher Mathew Solnik gave us a first-hand demonstration on how to wirelessly send commands to the car and remotely tell it what to do. With a little over a grand and about a month of work, Solnik found time outside of his full-time job to reverse-engineer a car's computer system to make it ready for a takeover. From his laptop, he was able to manipulate the car's engine, brakes and security systems by wirelessly tapping into the Controller Area Network, or CAN bus, network. Without getting too deep into the details—both for legal reasons and due to my own training-wheel knowledge of such things—he was able to do so by implementing some off-the-shelf chips, a third party telematic control unit, a GSM-powered wireless transmitter/receiver setup, and a significant amount of know-how he's accrued over the years. The reason for such additional hardware was to make our older, mid-sized sedan function like a newer—and arguably more vulnerable—stock vehicle, which these days often come with data connections. (We would have loved to tinker with the latest, most connected car on the market, but since we were on a shoestring budget and it's incredibly hard to find a friend who's willing to lend their car for a hacking experiment, our pickings were slim.) With that said, a car whose network system is connected to a cloud server and accessible by Bluetooth, cell networks, or wi-fi is potentially vulnerable to intrusion. http://www.acea.be/publications/article/position-paper-access-to-vehicle-data-for-third-party-services Today’s vehicles are increasingly ‘connected’ in the sense that they can exchange information wirelessly with the vehicle manufacturer, other vehicles and third-party service providers including insurance companies, financial and fleet service providers, users, infrastructure operators and diagnostic solution providers. This increases comfort and convenience for consumers, improves products and services, and contributes towards achieving societal goals such as improving road safety, reducing fuel consumption, and facilitating traffic management and parking. This development is generating increasing demands from various market participants to access in-vehicle data. The data in question, generated by the vehicle, is known as ‘operating data’. It excludes data imported by vehicle users (such as mobile phone contact lists and selected destinations for navigation) and data received from external sources (like information transmitted by roadside units, other vehicles or vulnerable road users). Access to in-vehicle data must be safe and secure. Direct third-party access to vehicle functions could increase exposure to hacker attacks, as every new external data interface increases the number of potential targets and entry points. Additional safety risks in terms of driver distraction could arise if external parties are granted uncontrolled access to the vehicle’s on-board systems, user interfaces and function displays. To minimise risks, automobile manufacturers and suppliers have been working together on an alternative to direct in-vehicle access to data. This would involve vehicle manufacturers communicating the relevant data in a secure manner between the vehicle and an off-board facility, from where market participants can access it. This would provide an open but secure interface for the provision of third-party services. In addition to an external server managed by the vehicle manufacturer, one or more neutral servers should be installed to offer service providers an alternative access method, ensuring their identity is not disclosed to the vehicle manufacturer and that customer data privacy rights are observed. These servers will not be operated, owned or financed by the vehicle manufacturers.
